It also has a "mature language" thing, so yeah, that should also be a good indicator of quality, or the lack thereof.

Why would the author think that was a good sprite choice.

I mean, really now. Why. Just WHY.

I'd never actually heard of Mario Adventures before this. I'll have to check that out.

I wonder why "Peacful Day" needs to be capitalized. And what up with the "scary words"? Did he mean "woods"?

Whatever that thing is that reminds me of the Time Eater, it's got the boo so spooked that he doesn't even turn intangible when he's been spotted.

"Thwimp" what? If there's a significance here, we shouldn't be cut off like this. And you really shouldn't jump from New Super Mario Bros. to Super Smash Bros. Brawl in two panels flat.

Wonder what ever happened to Mario & Luigi's attire? They haven't got overalls, their insignias are gone, Mario's eyes are really small and they both seem a lot like they just walked out of Fearman.

@Lugbzurg: It's "scary words". The boo is scared of the words "One beautiful & Peaceful Day at PARADISE ISLAND". It's basic 4th wall breaking. Its not usually a good sign if it starts that way.

Wouldn't it have looked better with sprites from Bowser's Inside Story?

@Sabbo Again: Most definitely. If done right it would go from looking like that to looking a lot more like this: http://www.smackjeeves.com/images/pb/6/6FIol3F734yq5HxG9O48HP.png

I'll admit though - that picture uses graphics from all three M&L games, just edited to fit the style of BIS.

Actually, not all of the things in NSMB are actual 3d models, but rather pre-rendered. Still a stupid idea to use it as a style though, especially like this.

@Devin The rapping plummber: That's precisely why the New Super Mario Bros. series is so ugly compared to every single other Mario game.

Just imagine if they used the Galaxy engine on Wii (or the 3D Land engine for the upcoming 3DS sequel). Shit would be cash, yo.

Lugbzurg April 25th, 2012, 3:39 pm

@Zero Kirby: It might have something to do with the dimensions, though.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3-D Land are both 3-D. Whereas all of the New Super Mario Bros. games are 2-D. Different engines for different dimensions.

@Lugbzurg: Sonic Generations would like to have a word with you

The DS version might get away with looking like that, but the Wii version could have easily (and really should have) used the Galaxy engine.
